Chicago River Oil Spill Affects Rowers, Wildlife
A mysterious oil spill appeared in the Chicago River. It covered a mile-long stretch on the south branch of the river near Bubbly Creek. The cause of the spill is still unknown, but the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency believes it originated in Bubbly Creek, which used to be a dumping ground for waste from the Chicago Stock Yards.
The oil spill has affected wildlife and locals. Cleanup crews rescued a few animals, but many died due to the contaminated water. The spill also ended the rowing season early for local rowing teams, as the oil stick to their boats. Cleanup is underway and will continue for at least another week, according to DNAinfo.
